AEM (ethylene-methyl acrylate), combines good low-temperature properties with excellent oil resistance. AEM also provides good resistance to heat, ozone, external stresses, and various chemicals.
AEM is more resistant to ozone and weathering than nitrile rubber (NBR). In general, AEM is the a better material for low temperature applications than ACM. Besides its excellent heat and ozone resistance, AEM also withstands vibrations. AEM has good dynamic properties and abrasion resistance under low and high extreme temperatures.
AEM is less low resistant to water and humidity, as well as acids, aromatic hydrocarbons, petrol and brake fluids. It is less cost-effective than nitrile rubber (NBR), chloroprene (CR) and EPDM.
AEM is used when a simultaneous resistance to ozone, heat and oil is necessary. It is a cost-effective alternative to FPM, silicone (VMQ) and FVMQ (fluorosilicone).
Typical applications include O-rings for transmission and power steering which must be resistant to transmission fluids, other lubricants and hydraulic fluids. Other applications include seals for sanitary installations, hoses, bearing bushings and custom moulded rubber parts.
The range of AEM material compounds includes more than 20 compounds with Shore A hardnesses from 50 to 85 in various colours (black, RAL colour according to customer requirement).
On request, Techné proposes specific AEM material compounds.
